By Jack Tany

Review Sports Reporter

QUICK QUIZ
Who am I? In June 1988, I appeared on the covers of Time, Life, People and Sports Illustrated.

A. Mike Tyson
B. Bruce Jenner
C. Muhammad Ali
D. Mike Nowlin

QUOTABLE QUOTES
Don Meredith, on running back Walt Garrison, "If you needed 4 yards, you'd give the ball to Garrison and he'd get 4 yards. If you needed 20 yards, you'd give the ball to Garrison and he'd get you 4 yards."

Golfer Nick Faldo, "We were happily married for eight months. Unfortunately, we were married for four and a half years."

Former Texas basketball coach Abe Lemons, "Coaches who shoot par in the summer are the guys I want on my schedule in the winter."

IDLE THOUGHTS
Did you hear about Chris Webber's tirade with the media a month or so ago?
A gossip columnist from the Sacramento Bee wrote in his column that Webber and model Tyra Banks were seen together. He lambasted the media and said he wouldn't be talking to them the rest of the year. Time out, Mr. Webber (no pun intended), but when you were in high school I saw you signing autographs prior to a tournament basketball game. Your right to privacy went out the window once you signed your first pro contract.

Alan Rondi of Dublin, California pleaded guilty to cruelty to animals and was ordered to pay a $10,000 fine after he partially blinded a barn owl with a slingshot. It seems the bird's screeches disrupted his enjoyment of Monday Night Football. I'm wondering how he could tell the difference between the barn owl and Dennis Miller? Recently ABC-TV announced that Miller and fellow broadcaster Dan Fouts were shown the proverbial door to make room for John Madden in the booth with Al Michaels. I wonder how long Madden will last without Pat Summerall feeding him softball questions?

I see where Laimbeer Packaging Co. recently shut its doors. The company, which built corrugated boxes for the past seven years, was formed by former Detroit Pistons' Bill Laimbeer's father, William Laimbeer, Sr. The younger Laimbeer went to Michigan State University to draw on industrial relations professors to help teach team-based problem solving and employee rewards and recognition to the workforce. The workers, however, balked at Bill Jr.'s ideas. He admitted his biggest mistake was buying a box plant in Flint, Mi., which was a money loser. He probably should have called his old buddy, Joe Dumars, for help.

How tough is Russian skater Elena Bereznaya? She took a skate blade to the head and was in a coma. She recovered fully and ended up with an Olympic Gold medal. I know the Detroit Red Wings are always seeking help along the blue line ...

Hats off to Garber Buick's Dick Garber for his foresight in bringing an Ontario Hockey League team to the Saginaw-area. My suggestion in the team-name contest was the Mid-Michigan Marauders.

In case you were interested, Nouvel Catholic Central's 6-8 center Jeff Bohnhoff is the son of former Arthur Hill cager Craig Bohnhoff. The elder Bohnhoff played against some of the top talent in the Saginaw Valley League in the mid-1970s as a center for the Lumberjacks.

Bumper Sticker: Driver Carries No Cash. He's Married. Ain't it the truth.

Whatever happened to Matt Biondi?
