In the 42nd annual Ax Bowl the Northwood University Timberwolves held off the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals 21-14 to move to 4-4 on the season.   In a game that was delayed almost an hour by a weather delay the Timberwolves plowed out the win.  Saginaw Valley in the middle of a rough two years stretch came into the came off a homecoming game victory last week.

Saginaw Valley head coach Jim Collins would see his 6-1 record in the Ax Bowl drop to 6-2 today after the Timberwolves scored the touchdown in the middle of the third period to take the lead 21-7.  Saginaw Valley State would score in the middle of the final quarter to pull with  7 points.   However the Cardinal defense couldn't stop the Timberwolves from marching down the field and pinning the Cardinal deep in their own territory.

Northwood running back Jared Briguglio would have two rushing touchdowns on the day.  He would run the ball 23 times for 102 yards.  Northwood would amaze 408 total yards in the game which finished on a muddy field.   The game was delayed after 3 quarters when thunder and lighting was in the area and delayed the game about 50 minutes.  Saginaw Valley State University quarterback Brad Odeman Jr. would have a solid day with 2 more passing touchdowns.   Only 1825 fans turned out to see this version of the Ax Bowl.   It didn't compare to some of the larger crowds that would regularly attend the Ax Bowl during the big years at SVSU.   Saginaw Valley had won 6 of the past 7 Ax Bowls.

Saginaw Valley now returns to action next Saturday evening against Hillsdale College at 7:00p.m.   While the Timberwolves will travel to face the Ohio Dominican.
