Warhol and the Image Machine Exhibition

Posted in: Art

Warhol and the Image Machine examines Andy Warhol’s understanding that icons are not born in isolation, but manufactured through repetition, circulation, and scale. Through portraits of celebrities, appropriated imagery, and mass-produced symbols, Warhol transformed the screen into both a witness to and an engine of fame. The exhibition considers how his work anticipated a world in which images move faster than experience itself, and recognition becomes a form of cultural currency. What once read as prescient now feels strikingly descriptive of daily life. Working across print, portraiture, and publicity, Warhol blurred the line between image and object, person and persona, event and reproduction. His silkscreens do not simply depict famous faces or public moments. They show how modern life is mediated, flattened, and endlessly replayed through systems of visual exchange. Repetition becomes more than a formal device. It becomes a way of thinking about consumption, memory, desire, and power. Bringing together works that move between glamour and unrest, intimacy and spectacle, Warhol and the Image Machine asks viewers to consider how images shape collective identity. In Warhol’s hands, printmaking became both mirror and mechanism, reflecting the culture of visibility while helping produce it. Public Opening: May 20, 2026 5:30-7:30pm.
