Does your family want to give fishing a try but aren’t sure where to start? Or are you an experienced fisherfamily ready to test your skills against hundreds of others? Saginaw County Parks and Recreation has your answer – Register today for our FREE fishing festival happening on June 7th at William H. Haithco Recreation Area (2121 Schust Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603). The first 150 youth registered will receive a free fishing pole, light tackle, and learn some skills to hook the big one. Bait is also provided on-site while supplies last. Free ice cream sundaes from 10:30AM-12PM as the event concludes. The fishing contest will run from 8:00 AM until 11:00 AM on June 7, 2025. Onsite registration will be available until 9:00 AM. The event falls on the MDNR’s free fishing weekend, where fishing licenses are not needed for adults in State of Michigan lakes, streams and rivers. Adults and children can fish together & have their fish entered in the contest. This event is catch, measure, and release only, although Haithco Lake typically falls under State of Michigan fishing rules and regulations. Trophies will be awarded for the family/participant who catches the largest fish and the most legal sized fish. Additional giveaways via a prize raffle.
