With much of 2020 encased by the dark shroud of crisis, the cleansing light of the Christmas season is set to brighten both soul and spirit with the announcement that Saginaw’s 43rd Annual Christmas Parade will be happening on Saturday, November 21st starting at 11 AM.

This year’s parade carries the theme ‘Visions of Christmas’ and will feature Grand Marshall Lt. Harry Davis, a retired commander of the Saginaw Police Reserve Unit who will lead the parade route beginning at Johnson and North Washington Streets and continuing south on Washington Avenue to Ezra Rust Boulevard, where it will wind-up on Ojibway Island. As always, the parade will feature floats, marching bands, drill teams, costumed characters; and of course, a welcomed appearance by Santa Claus to help kick things off.

According to Jeanne Conger of Positive Results for Downtown Saginaw, the parade route will be the same as last year and begin at the corner of Johnson & Washington Streets and go past Morley Plaza.

“Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, we won’t be able to conduct any of our Children’s activities this year such as our Christmas Party at The Castle Museum or Puppet Show at Hoyt Library. As for our annual Holidays in the Heart of the City celebration, we are waiting for approval to move forward from the Saginaw County Health Department, but have not heard back yet, so will attempt to update the public as soon as know.”

One holiday event that will be continuing, however, is Positive Results Downtown Saginaw’s annual Cookie House Competition, which is co-sponsored by Covenant Health Care & WSGW.  Cookie Houses and all their decorations must be made from edible materials and the contest is limited to the first 25 entries.  Details and competition rules along with an entry form are available on the display ad found on the back page of this issue of The Review.

All participants receive a special ribbon and all applications must be received by Friday, November 13th. Set up for the cookie houses is Saturday, November 21st, from 12:30 to 2:30 PM to qualify for judging and the houses will be on display at the SVRC Marketplace, 203 N. Washington on Nov 21st .
