The City of Saginaw encourages residents to attend an upcoming Informational Meeting this Friday, August 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Andersen Enrichment Center, 120 Ezra Rust Drive. Representatives from the Water Treatment Services Division and Fishbeck Engineering will discuss the future of the City’s Water Treatment Plant, located at 552 Ezra Rust Drive.
The City is currently working with Fishbeck Engineering to complete a Water Treatment Plant Study to determine the long-term future of the plant. The treatment facility is nearly 100-years in age, and much of the equipment and piping in the building has reached the end of its useful life.
The Water Treatment Plant Study will provide recommendations for the future of the plant, which could include equipment replacement and a large-scale rehabilitation of the current facility, or building a new plant in a new location.
The Water Treatment Plant is a Saginaw landmark recognized throughout the region for its history, its design and architecture, and the service it provides. If a new plant were built, the existing historic structure could be reimagined with a new purpose to benefit the entire community.
Future public meetings are planned for October or November to provide an update on the WTP study and receive additional public input. All meetings will be recorded and available to view on the City’s website at www.saginaw-mi.com. The city’s website will also have a comments section to allow citizens who view the meetings online to leave comments.
