The Detroit Tigers AAA affiliate is the Toledo Mudhens and they play in the International League of MILB (Minor League Baseball) in a beautiful park in downtown Toledo.    It is a short trip from the Great Lakes Bay area to see some good minor league baseball.  These players are just a step away from playing in the Majors.

Mudhens manager Larry Parrish is an 18 year veteran of MLB and an 7 time All-star player.  The Mudhens are struggling this season with an 18-22 record to this point in the season.   Tonight they were taking on the Syracuse Chiefs who are just ahead of them in the standings at 20-19.

In the low scoring game the Mudhens would wait until the end of the game to score all of their runs.  Then Mudhens would win 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th inning and scored the winning run on a walk off balk called by the home plate umpire.

Mudhen starter Drew Verhagen would go 6 innings and Kevin Whelan would pick up the win in relief.    Herman Perez and Wade Gaynor both would have two hits on the day.  Ben Guez would score the winning run on the balk call.   It was a cold rainy night at Fifth Third Field with just over 4,000 in paid attendance.
