The Tall Ships Celebration came in to Bay City during the weekend of July 14-17, 2016 for almost a week long visit.   This was the 6th time that the Tall Ships have made Bay City a port of destination.   12 majestic Tall Ships sailed into the Saginaw Bay starting on Thursday and made their way up the Saginaw River to dock downtown on both sides of the river.

All kinds of festivities and events surrounded the Celebration including a block party on Third Street.  Ballads and Brews held events in Veterans Park during the four day event.    What was amazing to the author were the number of people now attending.    Organizers were expecting 100,000 visitors to Tall Ships but those numbers were blown out of the water.   Long lines of three hour waits were common on a couple of the popular ships like the El Galeon Andalucia.   This ship is the largest Viking ship in the 6 times that I attended the Tall Ships.

The organizers had things running smoothly the entire weekend with the large number of volunteers that make this whole event run like a top.  Some of the majestic ships that appeared this year were the Pride of Baltimore, Appledore IV, Denis Sullivan, Draken Harald Harfagre, Pride of Baltimore II, When and If, and the U.S. Brig Niagra.   Bay City now has become a regular stop on the rotation of the Tall Ships Celebration and have many awards on the superior way they run the event.
