Saginaw, MI:

In in an email press release this evening Saginaw Spirit GM Dave Drinkill announced the team has signed sixth round draft pick Ian Lemieux to an Ontario Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.

“As an organization, we are pleased that Ian and his family have committed to the Saginaw Spirit, Drinkill said. “He came in and really impressed our staff during training camp. When we returned him to Jr. A, he has done everything we have asked him to do and he has earned this opportunity. We are looking forward to seeing him in a Saginaw uniform.”

The 16 year old from Bradford, ON caught the attention of Spirit scout's after putting up 15-points (3-goals, 12-assists) through 28-games for the York-Simcoe Express in the Eastern Triple A Minor Midget Hockey League last season, prompting the Spirit brass to select the 6-foot, 176-pound left-shooting defenseman in the sixth round of the 2018 OHL priority selection draft this past April.

He had a good camp with the Spirit this fall, however, with a deep Saginaw defensive corps, the Spirit opted to send the youngster to season his game, playing Junior A hockey for the Stouffville Spirit in the Ontario Junior Hockey League, where he has 2-assists through 20-games this season.

Lemieux will suit up and wear the No. 7 sweater when the Spirit complete the final leg of its recent Northern Ontario road trip with a 2 pm game against the Owen Sound Attack at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre in Owen Sound, ON tomorrow afternoon.
