After kicking off a five game road trip with a 5-4 victory over the Peterborough Petes (23-21-1-1) at the Peterborough Memorial Centre in Peterborough, ON last night, the Saginaw Spirit (30-12-2-2) followed up with a 7-1 trouncing of the Kingston Frontenac at the Leon's Centre in downtown Kingston, ON tonight.
Last night in Peterborough, Saginaw leading scorer Cole Coskey (26) led the Spirit with a 3-point night, scoring 2-goals with 1-assist in the 5-4 win over the Petes, while Saginaw rookie Cole Perfetti (19); defenseman Justin Murray (8); and forward Nicholas Porco (16) each added goals for the Spirit as well.
Tonight, the Spirit jumped out to an early lead when Porco (18) scored two first period goals to give Saginaw a 2-0 lead heading into the first intermission.
Saginaw forward Jake Goldowski (9) scored his ninth goal of the season to give the Spirit a 3-0 lead at 4:41 of the second period, before New York Islanders prospect Bode Wilde (13) scored a power play goal for a 4-0 Saginaw lead at 16:58 of the second period.
Spirit captain Damien Giroux (18); Murray (9); and Camaryn Baber (3) each added third period tallies to round out the Spirit scoring.
Saginaw rookie goal tender Tristan Lennox continues to answer the call, stopping 20 of the 21 shots he faced in net, while his counterpart, former Spirit goalie Brendan Bonello turned away 29 of the 36 shots he would face in between the pipes for the Frontenac tonight.
The Spirit will be back in action with the third leg of this five game road trip when they take on the OHL's top ranked team, the Ottawa 67's in a 2 pm face off at TD Place in Ottawa, ON Sunday afternoon.
