The Saginaw Spirit will host the defending memorial cup champion Oshawa Generals at the Dow Event Center tonight. The puck will drop at 7:05 p.m.
The Generals 9-7-2-0 are currently in third place in the east division of the eastern conference of the OHL, while the Spirit boast a 7-7-1-1 record in third place in the west division of the western conference.
After a shaky start to the season, the Spirit have won 5-of their last-7 games, including an impressive comeback victory over the Soo Greyhounds where the Spirit scored 5 third-period goals Wednesday night at the Dow.
Amazingly, this young Spirit team has been winning without two of their leaders.
Mitchell Stephens, a second-round pick (33 overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2015 NHL draft has missed considerable time with a broken foot after taking a slapshot to the skate.
Dylan Sadowy, a third-round pick (71 overall) of the San Jose Sharks in the 2014 NHL draft has missed a few games with an injury as well.
The Spirit will welcome Medal of Honor recipient Col. Roger Donlon (RET.) and Army SGT (RET.) Douglas Szczepanski for Military Appreciation Game presented by Bay City Elks Lodge 88 tonight. The two war heroes will be speaking in the Blue Line Club at 5:30 P.M. Prior to the game.
The Spirit will also be wearing special camouflage jerseys that will be auctioned off after the game.
