Spirit drop first pre season game 8-3 to Greyhounds

The Spirit led 3-0 before the Soo scored the next 8 unanswered goals....

The Saginaw Spirit dropped the first pre season game of the 2016-17 season to the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 8-3 at the Dow Event Center tonight. 
 
The Spirit jumped out to an early 3-0 first period lead with goals from Kris Bennett (5:36 of the 1st period), Mitchell Stephens (7:50 of the 1st period), and Matthew Kreis (9:27 of the 1st period) but the scoring went dry as the Soo scored the next three goals of the period to tie it up. 
 
The Greyhounds scored three goals in the second period taking a 6-3 lead through two periods of play. 
 
Spirit rookie goal tender Cameron Lamour replaced Evan Cormier at 9:49 of the second period. Lamour was solid in his Spirit debut, allowing just one goal on 9 shots in the second.
 
Lamour would go on to allow two more goals on 11 shots in the third for a two period total of 3 goals on 20 shots. 
 
Cormier allowed 3 goals on 10 shots in the first period, and another 2 goals off 5 shots in the second before being replaced by Lamour. Cormier gave up 5 goals off of 15 shots total. 
 
Brady Gilmour, Kirill Maksimov, Max Grondin, Marcus Crawford, and Jesse Barwell all added assists for the Spirit tonight. 
 
The Spirit travel to the Soo tomorrow for a 4:05 pm game, before finishing the pre season with a home and home vs. Flint next weekend on the road Fri and home Sat.
