Sculpture Takes Center Stage: The Biennial Exhibition Returns on June 7

The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum, located on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University, invites you to experience the 2025 Regional Biennial Juried Sculpture Exhibition, a vibrant celebration of sculptural excellence across the Great Lakes states.

The opening garden reception, held on Saturday, June 7, from 6–9 p.m., will bring together artists, art enthusiasts, and community members in a dynamic setting, both within the Museum and the Jo Anne and Donald Petersen Sculpture Garden. Registration for this event is required by May 30, 2025.

This year’s exhibition features approximately 55 sculptural works from talented artists across the Great Lakes states including, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, New York, and Pennsylvania. Showcasing diverse styles, media, and artistic perspectives, the exhibition highlights the innovation and craftsmanship of contemporary sculptors.

The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum is home to the legacy of America’s Public Sculptor, Marshall M. Fredericks. Known for iconic works such as The Spirit of Detroit, Fredericks dedicated his career to creating meaningful and monumental sculptures that resonate with communities. His passion for artistry and public engagement continues to inspire generations, making the Museum a vital cultural hub.

The President of the National Sculpture Society, Greg Glasson, renowned sculptor and owner of Glasson Sculpture Works, brings his expertise in managing large-scale sculptural projects to this year’s exhibition. His keen eye for design and technical mastery ensured a thoughtful selection of this year’s featured works, as well as the merit award winners.

“We are thrilled to have Greg Glasson as the juror for this year’s exhibition,” said Megan McAdow, Museum Director at SVSU. “His experience and dedication to the field of sculpture align perfectly with our mission to support living artists and foster creativity in the Great Lakes Bay Region.”

The First through Fourth place award-winning artists will be announced during the reception, with monetary prizes sponsored by the Maxwell K. Pribil Trust with Huntington.

The 2025 Regional Biennial Juried Sculpture Exhibition is supported by the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and  Maxwell K. Pribil Trust with Huntington.

The Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum is located on the campus of Saginaw Valley State University, 7400 Bay Road, University Center, Michigan. Museum hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is free. Scheduled guided tours are available on Saturdays at noon.
