The Saginaw Spirit totally outplayed the Sarnia Sting at the Dow Event Center on Thursday night.  The Spirit dropped the contest 3-0 with an uncontested goal late in the third period.   The Spirit goalie Jake Patterson played an outstanding game stopping 42 shots from the Sting.   The Sarnia Sting scored one goal in each period to win the OHL contest.

The Spirit playing the first game of 3 in a row this weekend will now travel to Plymouth to play the Whalers on Friday night before returning to the Dow for a game Saturday against the Sault Ste. Marie team.

Saginaw's record coming into the game was 12-15-2 and played in front of a small crowd on a Thursday night.  However Spirit Head Coach Greg Gilbert kept the Spirit going full tilt most of the evening knocking out 38 shots of their own.  One would come away from the game thinking that the Spirit totally outplayed the Sting but still came up on the short end.

Earlier in the day it was announced two of the top Spirit players on the season Vincent Trocheck and Jake Paterson both were selected to try out for their respective countries for the 2013 World Junior Championships.   Paterson is one of 4 goalies in camp for the Canada team while teammate Vincent Trocheck will try to make the U.S. Junior National team.

As the Spirit promote all season long come on down to the Dow Event Center to watch "OHL today NHL tomorrow."     With the National Hockey League still on strike the OHL fits the bill for a hockey fix.
