Saginaw Old Golds Win Bracket Two at the Worlds

The Saginaw Old Golds (6 time World Champs) won Bracket Two in Greenfield Village on Sunday, August 11, 2019.  Game One saw the Gold pound out 35 hits in beating Oregon 21 to 8. 

Leading the way was Toby Larkin (4 for 5, 4 RBI’s, 4 runs scored) and Bryce Funchion (5 for 5, 4 RBI’s, 3 runs scored).  John Piersall pitched this game and all the innings in the tournament. 

In Game Two the Gold lost to Drovertown 14 to 11.  Mike Endert and Bryce Funchion went 4 for 5.  Adam McCauley made 4 put outs. 

Game Three the bats came alive again as the Golds ran past Walker Tavern 19 to 10.  John Piersall, Jon Smith (4 put outs) and Toby Larkin (5 RBI’s) all going 4 for 4. 

In the Championship game for Bracket Two, the Golds pounded the Columbus Capitals 22 to 9.  Toby Larkin, Ryan Dost, and Jason Leckrone all went 4 for 4.  Jon Smith made 3 put outs (11 put outs in 4 games).  For the tournament, Bryce Funchion was 15 for 18 and Toby Larkin was 13 for 17, Jon Smith 13 for 17, and Jason Leckrone went 13 for 17. 

The Golds season record stands at 11-3 with the Michigan Cup on the line at Bay City in September. (Saginaw is the defending Champion).
