The Saginaw Old Golds of Vintage Baseball fame opened the Greenfield Worlds with an 11-5 win over Dovertown. Jon Smith did everything but chalk the baselines & cut the grass. Jon went 4 for 4 (All-Doubles). He scored 4 times, had 2 RBI’s, & made 7 putouts in left field.
Scott Mader & Adam McCauley added 3 RBI’S each.
Game 2 saw Saginaw’s bats come to life as they blasted Columbus 34-7. Leading the assault was catcher Adam “Squints” McCauley who went 6 for 6, 5 RBI’S, & 5 Runs scored. Ryan Dost & Devon Funchion added 4 RBI’S each.
Onward into Sunday, which saw the Golds defense take over. Dost, McCauley, Jeff Hicks, & Quinn Konuszewski all went 3 for 3. Jon Smith pulled in 5 Outfield Put Outs. Jerry “Mugsy” Endert pitched all 9 innings in the 10-2 win over Oregon.
The finals saw the Saginaw Old Golds run past Flat Rock 11-3. Bryce “Bolt” Funchion & Quinn Konuszewski went 3 for 3. Devon “Goose” Funchion pulled in 5 Right Field Putouts. Jerry Endert again pitched every single inning for his second win of the day & the team’s 7th World Title. Jerry won the Tournaments “Best Pitcher Award”.
THE Golds have now won here at Greenfield Village: 2009, 2011, 2012 ,2013, 2014, 2017, & 2021.
