Great Lakes Hitting Club owners Juston Davenport and Tony Escamilla both have a lifelong involvement with the great game of baseball.   In speaking with the owners of the year old business in the Green Acres Plaza one can see the passion they both for the game.   Tony Escamilla approached Juston Davenport with the idea of starting the Hitting Club as a way to improve the baseball talent that was here in the Great Lakes Bay area.   Juston said recently "That I would like to see the baseball players to get back to the great era when the Saginaw area produced many talented players."    "We can provide that here with professional instruction and the opportunity to work indoors when the weather outside doesn't cooperate."

Tony Escamilla's love for the game has been since his playing days at Bay City Handy High School and has continued on as a coach for several different amateur teams over the last 20 years.   Tony also told this writer " I want help the players get that specialized instruction to help them take the next step to play collegiately or even professionally some day."  " I have had the opportunity to play against some good competition and learn from some good coaches."   " We both want to pass that along."

Juston Davenport's journey has taken him to the professional ranks playing in the New York Yankee's organization after playing at the University of Detroit/Mercy.    Juston works mainly with players on their hitting and fielding at the Hitting Club.   The Hitting Club uses several guest instructors during the year with each specializing in one certain area.   The ages that use the Club are from 8 years old up to the adult age that want to get in some extra work before the season begins each year.

The Great Lakes Hitting Club has the room for up to 5 batting cages and 3 pitching mounds to used by teams through out the year.   They also have any area large enough to work with all their infielders taking infield.   They also have 3 pitching machines to get in countless hours of batting practice.

Tony Escamilla said "that we have learned a few things in the year that we have been open and now have made changes to make us an even better facility."    "We also offer Birthday Parties here at the Hitting Club for the younger ages to come and use the batting cages along with the party."    The Hitting Club can be reached at 989 395-6194 or at the Club's website.  The facility is well lit and everything is new and in good working order with staff always on hand.

Juston Davenport spoke about the tryouts for the 2012 Hitting Club teams "We will be conducting tryouts for the 2012 teams on August 27-28, 2011 at Saginaw Township South Little League complex for the age group from 9U - 16U."  "We hope to have at least 5 teams playing baseball for the Hitting Club in 2012."  "If any player or parent has any questions concerning the tryouts feel free to contact us here at the Hitting Club."
