Captain Hooks: Reviving the Lost Art of the Class A Restaurant and Supper Club
By Robert E. Martin
Many years ago, before the onslaught of 'chain restaurants' and the urge to focus one's dining experience into a marketing niche, there existed something known as the 'supper club'. While big cities like New York fostered such recognizable venues of pizzazz and class like the famous Stork Club, local restaurants such as Chris' Highlife and The Three Coins would diligently provide patrons with top notch dining in an elegantly innovative setting, with top entertainment in the evening for one's dancing pleasure.
Today, thanks to the efforts of the husband & wife team of Bill & Louann Hook, and joined by son Jerry Hoy, the tri-city's not only have a class 'supper club' but also a convivial and bright Family Restaurant that features a vast array of menu items ranging from Steaks, King Crab, and Lobster to Sandwiches, Pastas, and Children's portions, all served in an eminently unique setting, with divergent entertainment five nights a week.
Captain Hook's Food & Spirits, located at 175 E. Jefferson Avenue in Frankenmuth is easily one of the more embracing establishments to open its arms to tri-city palates seeking quality, affordability, and something out of the ordinary.
Originally built by developer Scott Rausch as The Blue Dolphin a decade ago, the doors to Captain Hook's opened in December of last year and started operating full tilt with a liquor license in March of this year.
Open seven days a week from 11:00 AM until 2:00 AM, the centerpiece of Captain Hook's consists of a 380-gallon Salt Water Aquarium filled with colorful & exotic fish, combined with spacious & comfortable seating for dining, compounded by one of the area's biggest dance floors to enjoy their divergent offering of live entertainment.
