The Great Lakes Loons and South Bend Cubs (Chicago Cubs) were tied 1-1 with 1-out in the bottom of the seventh inning when a massive amount of rain was dumped on Dow Diamond, sending the 6,044 fans scrambling for cover.

The game has been suspended until tomorrow, where the two teams will pick it back in the bottom of the seventh inning starting at 6:05 pm prior to playing another 9-innings of Friday's already scheduled game at Dow Diamond.

The Loons and Cubs traded home runs in the bottom of the second and top of the third respectively, accounting for all of the offense.

After starting the season in the Dodgers' Arizona rookie league, Loons starter Imani Abdullah returned to Midland for tonight's game, but was on a very limited pitch count.

The 20 year old eleventh round pick of the Dodgers (2015) allowed 1-hit and 2-walks, while striking out 2-batters through 1 1/3 innings tonight.

Loons center fielder Cody Thomas (11) wasted little time to get things going in the second half of the Midwest League season, leading off the bottom of the second inning with his eleventh home run of the season to give the Loons a 1-0 lead.

The Cubs answered in the top of the third inning when shortstop Zach Short (7) went opposite field, bouncing his seventh home run of the season off the yellow stripe at the top of the right field wall and over the 325-foot sign at Dow Diamond to tie the game at 1-run apiece midway through the third.

Loons reliever Christian Stolo (1-2, 3.30 ERA) who is normally a late-inning reliever, piggy-backed on Abdullah's start, giving up just the 1-run on the homer; along with 3-hits and 1-walk, while striking out 1-batter through 1 2/3 innings of relief.

The Loons and the Cubs will try to finish tonight's game at 6:05 pm tomorrow, before rounding out the rest of this 4-game home series over the weekend.
