Studio 23 is hosting the MI Artists All-State Juried Exhibition in their Rowley and Tabor Galleries for the fall season. This biennial nine-week exhibition showcases the talent of 81 artists living and creating art in Michigan. Juror Timothy Norris’s selections of art for this exhibit are both diverse and inclusive. His focus is on the strength of an artist community that came forward to enter the competition and ultimately have art selected for the show during this extraordinary and unprecedented year. “I selected work from over 280 images from artists across the state. During this trying time, it is very important to support our Michigan artists,” said Norris.

Art is alive and well in Michigan, and this ambitious exhibition demonstrates that fact. On Thursday, September 17, 2020, at 5:00 pm, juror Timothy Norris will join Studio 23 curator Valerie Allen in the galleries to present a virtual talk and tour of the exhibition on Facebook Live. Allen has organized and installed the art as a narrative for the audience. Themes include the power of color, Michigan's roots in social practice, nature inspirations, and contemporary portraiture. Viewers of the Facebook Live event will have the opportunity to share comments with both of them in real time.

“As we pivot to more online experiences for our audience, there will also be a slide-show style online gallery on our website that includes each piece of art in the exhibition. Art collectors can browse the images at their convenience and contact us here at Studio 23 for more information,” states Allen. The online gallery will be introduced at the September 17, 2020 virtual reception for the artists and audience.

This exhibition is made possible by the many 50 Art Advocates of the Great Lakes Bay Region. Thank you to this advocacy group, which includes members of the community, artists, and businesses. Their support is very much appreciated and expands our mission to keep the visual arts accessible and relevant to all.

The dates of the exhibition are September 12 – November 14, 2020. The galleries are open Tuesday – Saturday from 11:00 am – 5:00 pm. Masks are required and attendance is limited to 10 people in the galleries.
