The Great Lakes Loons started the second series of the current home stand with a great 3-0 shutout performance over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at the Dow.    After winning 2 of 3 games from the Quad Cities River Bandits they continued their winning ways in this tight game.   There were only 6 hits on the evening with each team getting 3 hits each.

The Loons made an emergency start with Alex Hermeling who ended up going four innings in the shut out.   Three other Loons pitchers finished the game to preserve the well played shut out victory.   The game played  in front of 1,461 fans saw 23 strikeouts on the night with the Loons striking out 12 times.    Great Lakes would score 2 runs in the fifth inning by sending 7 batters to the plate without the benefit of a hit.

Great Lakes record improved to 11-15 on the young season will play the Kernels in two more games before having a Midwest League wide day off on Sunday May 8 (Mother's Day).    Then they are off on the road again for a week long series against Fort Wayne and then Dayton before returning to Dow Diamond on Tuesday May 17th against the South Bend Cubs.

So far in this 2016 campaign the Loons are playing well at home but have had a 1-9 record on the road to date.  A funny note so far in this season the Loons lead the Midwest League in home runs but are in last  in batting average at .199 after 26 games.
