The Great Lakes Loons dropped the opening game of their three game home series with the Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) 2-1 in extra innings at Dow Diamond tonight.

The two teams traded runs in their respective halves of the fifth inning and it stayed 1-1 until the top half of the eleventh inning when the Hot Rods scored.

Bowling Green shortstop Jake Cronenworth's 2-out rbi single in the top of the eleventh inning scored left fielder David Olmedo-Barrera to give the Hot Rods a 2-1 lead. The Loons had a chance when DH Matt Jones led off the bottom of the eleventh inning with a walk, but failed to advance him.

Loons reliever Brian Ross (1-4, 3.09 ERA) was charged with the loss, giving up the go-ahead run off of three hits in his one inning of relief.

Starter Victor Gonzalez (3-5, 3.04 ERA) allowed one run on 2-hits and three walks, while striking out 6 batters in his five innings of work. Alex Burgos (1-0, 0.00 ERA) allowed just two hits and 1 walk while striking out 4-batters through three innings. Gavin Pittore (2-1, 2.72 ERA) gave up one hit and struck out 2-batters in his two innings of work.

Third baseman Jake Walker led all Loons hitters going 2 for 4 with a walk, scoring the Loons lone run. Center fielder Darien Tubbs was 2 for 6 with an rbi. Noah Perio, Jake Henson, Erick Meza, and Matt Jones contributed with one hit apiece.

The Loons will be back in action tomorrow night at Dow Diamond when they host this same Bowling Green team. First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
