The Great Lakes Loons (11-12) dropped the third straight game of their four-game series against the Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) 9-7 at Classic Park in Eastlake, Ohio Sunday evening. The Loons are now one game under five-hundred, and in fourth place in the eastern division of the MWL.

Great Lakes fell behind the proverbial eight-ball early on as Loons starter, Brandon Martinez (1-5, 4.60 ERA) gave up six early runs in the second inning. Martinez was ultimately charged with the loss after giving up a total of 13-hits, 8-runs, 2-home run's, while striking out 2-Lake County batters through just 4-innings of work Sunday evening.

The Loons pitching seemed to settle down after that disastrous second inning. Ralston Cash (2-1, 4.36 ERA) and Jordan Hershiser (0-0, 2.43 ERA) combined to allow just one more run off of 5-hits throughout the rest of the contest.

Loons left fielder, Alex Santana led the Great Lakes offense, going 2-for-4 with 3-rbi Sunday; while catcher, Spencer Navin scored 3-runs, going a perfect 2-for-2 along with a walk. Loons third baseman, Paul Hoenecke went 2-for-5 with 1-rbi, and right fielder, Joey Curletta was 1-for-5 with 2-rbi.

This young Great Lakes team will complete their long 13-game (month of July) road trip tomorrow night (on just the fourteenth day of July) with the fourth and final game of their four-game road series against Lake County. The Loons will then have a day off for travel on Tuesday, before returning to Dow Diamond Wednesday to start back-to-back three-game home stands against two MWL western division foes: the Clinton LumberKings (Seattle Mariners) and the Kane County Cougars (Chicago Cubs) respectively.
