The Great Lakes Loons dropped the first game of a 'twi-night double header' this evening 4-3 to the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers) at Dow Diamond earlier this evening. The game is a continuation make-up game of a July, 7 game that was postponed in Grand Rapids on July, 7 earlier this summer.

The Whitecaps are in Midland for the final 3 games of the 2016 Midwest League regular season, so the make-up game was scheduled in Midland with West Michigan as the home team in the first of two games tonight.

The Loons grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third inning on RBI singles by Darien Tubbs and Zach McKinstry.

West Michigan answered with one run in the fourth, and two in the fifth respectively.

The Loons managed to tie the game at 3-3 with one run in the top of the seventh on an Erick Meza (2) solo home run over the right field wall at Dow Diamond.

West Michigan DH Cam Gibson scored the eventual game-winning run on a SAC fly off of Loons newcomer Willian Soto (0-1, 7.20 ERA) who joined the team on Sep. 1 from the Dodgers' rookie league Ogden Raptors. Soto was charged with the blown save and the loss. He gave up all four runs on 7-hits through 5-innings.

Bernardo Reyes -who had a cup of coffee with the Loons in 2015 before moving to the disabled list- struck out 1 batter in one inning of work tonight. Reyes, who was also called up from Ogden on Sep. 1 along with Soto- was sent back to the Raptors immediately following tonight's game.

The Loons' lead for the final eastern division playoff spot in the MWL is now down to a half game over the Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays) who beat the Lake County Captains (Cincinnati Reds) 6-0 tonight.
