A Michigan native and Sanford resident, Joseph Caldwell brings a home cooked flavor to traditional American music, navigating the musical maps of country, pop, folk, and rock music, he visits each genre with originality and zest.

A solo acoustic artist, Caldwell has performed widely on the folk festival and art fair circuit. Credits include Wheatland, Bliss, and Hiawatha Music festivals.

Joseph has hosted Acoustic Juice at Xhedo's Cafe and wrote all original music for the live stage show "Free Range Radio," for which he served as music director.

His debut CD, entitled Spyder, received critical acclaim from both Detroit audiences and members of Detroit music media.  For this release he won the Aurora Borealis Production Awards for Traditional Vocalist of the Year and Traditional Sound in 1999.

Caldwell's musical journey began when his father bought a guitar for he and his brother and they taught themselves how to play.  His musical influences come from across the breadth of folk, rock and pop.  Listeners may be treated to the works of artists like Neill Young, Steve Earle, Towns Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, Fairport Convention, the Beatles or the Band.  Caldwell also has strong credentials in the Americana Scene, as the work of Pete Seeger, Tom Russel, and Nanci Griffith also may be mixed with the sounds of Bluegrass, Traditional Irish and Cajun tunes within any given performance.

Caldwell’s approach to performance one of the consummate professional.  As he describes, many years of self-employment as a skilled tradesman brought him to truly embrace the celebratory energy that underlie his passionate live shows.  For Joseph Caldwell, music is a release and a reprieve from the grind of many long days.

Caldwell’s original music is mostly inspirational, locally themed and comes from the soul of a working man growing up in the Great Lakes region.

Caldwell, who is working on a second CD release, recently appeared as a special guest on QTV "Uncommon Sense" with Junia Doan discussing music, performing, stone masonry, tree maintenance, and art – all the markings of a Renaissance Man.

Catch Joe Caldwell at one of his regular live performances in the Great Lakes Bay Regions.  It’s an opportunity to get energized.
