In an email press release from the league this afternoon, Midwest League administrator Holly L. Voss announced that Great Lakes Loons infielder Brendon Davis has been added to the eastern division roster for the 2017 Midwest League All Star Game June, 20 at Dow Diamond.

Davis (a 19 year old infielder from Lakewood, CA) was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the fifth round of the 2015 MLB draft out of Lakewood H.S.

The Dodgers were fortunate to get the 6-foot-4 Davis in the fifth round after the silky smooth shortstop was forced to miss his senior year of high school baseball due to a broken wrist, eventually committing to play college baseball at Cal State Fullerton where his father (Gary) had played basketball.

The Dodgers proved how much they wanted Davis, luring him away from Cal State Fullerton with a $918,600 signing bonus, an impressive $605,000 dollars over the MLB allotted slot value ($313,600 dollars) for his draft position, and closer to the allotted slot value for second round draft picks in the 2015 MLB draft.

Promotional obligations and the recent addition of some players to the disabled list created 3 open spots on the eastern roster and another single spot opened on the western roster, allowing Davis and 3 pitchers to join their respective All Star teams.

Also added to the eastern division roster were Bowling Green Hot Rods (Tampa Bay Rays) pitcher J.D. Busfield and Lake County Captains (Cleveland Indians) Pitcher Dalbert Siri, while the western division added Clinton LumberKings (Seattle Mariners) pitcher Robert Duggar to its roster.

Davis, who's in his second year with Great Lakes, caught the final out to secure the 2016 MWL championship for the Loons after hitting .241 in his first season as a professional with a .629 OPS, and is currently hitting .256 with a .790 OPS this year.

Yesterday afternoon at Dow Diamond, Davis (6) hit a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning, his sixth of the season, which put the Loons ahead by a run, securing a 4-3 win over the South Bend Cubs (Chicago Cubs).

It has yet to be announced whether Davis will compete in the 2017 Midwest League Home Run Derby which takes place immediately following the 2017 High School All Star Game on June, 19 at Dow Diamond.

Davis and the Loons, who have won 2 of the first 3 games of a 4-game home series with the Cubs, will look to win the series tonight in a 7:05 pm start at Dow Diamond. It will be the last game at Dow Diamond before the 2017 MWL All Star festivities kickoff Mon-Tue Jun 19-20 next week.
