MIDLAND, MI-  The Great Lakes Loons will take a 3-0 lead into today's action against the Bowling Green Hot Rods from the suspended game from last night at Dow Diamond.  It a tremendous downpour that lasted for a good two hours the game was washed away for the evening.   The game will be resumed this afternoon at 2:05p.m. in the bottom of the fourth inning with the Loons at bat.

The Bowling Green Hot Rods come into the game with the 2nd best record in the Midwest League for the 2016 season.  The 1st round of the playoffs will consist of one game at Dow Diamond and then the next two games in Bowling Green on Friday and Saturday.

Great Lakes started their 16 million dollar bonus baby Yadier Alvarez who would pitch four innings before the rains came.   He would get out jams in a couple innings and what impressed me was the speed that he had thrown this year.   In this playoff game he would consistently throw in the 93 -98 mph range.  In the second inning he touched 100 mph on the Dow Diamond scoreboard radar gun.

The Loons got on the board in the third inning after two were out.   Gage Green would single and then score Saige Jenco would double him home.  Then the fun would begin when the Hot Rods would throw the ball around the infield leading to the Loons scoring two more runs for the 3-0 lead.  Zac McKinstry would walk putting runners on first and second still with two outs.  Omar Estevez would then hit a single that would score both runners when the throw to the plate went wide and the return throw to third also got but the 3rd baseman to score McKinstry.     The rains came in the top of the fourth inning and bye the bottom of the inning the umpires decided to put the tarp on the field.   After a lengthy rain delay the game was suspended until Thursday the 8th to be completed.   The real sad part is that Alvarez will not be returning to the mound to complete the game.
