The Great Lakes Loons have picked the right time of the season to go on a winning streak.   The Loons winners of the last 10 of 13 games now enjoy a 1/2 game lead over the Lansing Lugnuts for the wild card playoff spot.    The Loons winners over the Fort Wayne 9-2 on Tuesday evening at beautiful Dow Diamond in front of 3,149 fans.

Starting pitcher Leonardo Crawford would go five innings keeping the TinCaps in check would pick up the win.   The Loons had two big innings putting all 9 runs on the board.   They would score 4 runs in the 3rd inning to maintain a 4-2 lead going into the bottom of the 8th inning where they then plated 5 more runs.   Ibandel Isabel and Saige Jenco both would hit home runs in propelling the Loons to a 9-2 lead.

Great Lakes now moves to 28-29 in the second half of play in the Eastern Division of the Midwest League and 57-70 overall in the 140 game season.   Brendan Davis would pace the Loons at the plate with 3 hits on the night.   The Loons have two more night games with the TinCaps on Wednesday and Thursday before heading out on the final 7 game road trip of the 2016 season.   They then return to Dow Diamond for the critical final 3 game series with the West Michigan Whitecaps over Labor Day weekend.

One could sit and go over all of the possibilities for the Loons to qualify for the playoffs which makes for interesting conversation.  However with just twelve games left I believe that they will need to win at least 8 games to have lock on making the playoffs this season.   The Loons have qualified for the Midwest League playoffs four times in the young 9 year history of the team.   I have a strange feeling even with an overall losing record  that they will once again make the playoffs.   It does bring a certain amount of excitement to the City of Midland and diehard baseball fans to get some extra baseball in the fall.   We will have to wait and see for just a couple of weeks.
