Saginaw, Michigan, March 10, 2015 – Faces of the Great Lakes Bay Region: Creative Portraiture by Gregory Barckholtz is on display now through April 24, 2015. This exhibition features a series of portraits by professional photographer Gregory Barckholtz, his “everyday work.” The exhibition is on display at the Andersen Enrichment Center, 120 Ezra Rust, across from Ojibway Island in Saginaw. Exhibit hours are 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Gregory Barckholtz, an award winning photographer, began his career in 1980 when he opened Portraits by Gregg in St. Charles, Michigan. He later moved to a studio in Thomas Township before purchasing property on Midland Rd in Saginaw and building a studio from the ground up. During Gregg’s years as a photographer, he has photographed over 10,000 sessions in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Sessions that ranged from a newborn, to the President of Dow Chemical, from a little league team, to a portrait of Congressman David Camp, and over 7500 graduating seniors from the Great Lakes Bay Region have sat for his lens.
Gregg says, “It is a great honor to be asked to capture a moment in time, document a special occasion and record for history the story of my subject. There is no greater thrill than to make images that I know are going to last a lifetime. My work is a reflection of you Great Lakes Bay Region, your youth, beauty and strength.”
Notable achievements during Gregg’s career include earning his Master of Photography degree in 1986 from the Professional Photographer of America, being named the Michigan Photographer of the Year 6 times and the Mid-East States Photographer of the Year. One of his images was selected for the cover the Cameracraftsmen of America book, a book that is printed every 5 years honoring the craft of photography. Over 50 black and white images from Gregg’s private collection were on display at the Saginaw Art Museum during his time as an Artist in Residence. He will open a new show of private work at the Red Eye Coffeehouse in Saginaw this coming May.
Art @ the Andersen is a great opportunity for art lovers to connect with the creativity of the Great Lakes Bay Region. The project was established by the Saginaw Arts & Enrichment Commission to give area artists the opportunity to showcase their work and introduce the community to the abundant creativity in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Art @ the Andersen is made possible with a grant from the Arthur D. Eddy Memorial Fund, and is supported by the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs and the National Endowment for the Arts.
