Detroit Red Wings storm to Game 7

The Detroit Red Wings are on the verge of making history by coming back from a 3-0 deficit in the Western Conference Semi-Finals against the San Jose Sharks.    The Red Wings dominated the Sharks in game 6 at Joe Louis Arena on Wednesday night in skating away with a 3-1 victory.  The sold out crowd was treated to an unbelievable game with the Wings out shooting the Sharks 45 -25. 

After a scoreless first 2 periods the Sharks drew first blood in the 3rd period taking a 1-0 lead.   That stunned the noisey crowd for a couple of minutes.  The game had a Stanley Cup air to it with both teams playing outstanding hockey.   Jimmy Howard the Red Wings goalie was stopping shot after shot from the San Jose team.   Henrik Zetterberg finally broke the ice for the Wings with his tip in goal.   Vattleri Filppula scored 1:54 seconds latter to give the home team crowd something to really go nuts over.   With a 2-1 lead the Wings contiuned to play tough defense for the rest of the night. 

San Jose decided to pull its goalie with about 90 seconds to go.   It backfired.   Darren Helm scored an empty net goal with 1:05 left in the game for the final score 3-1.   That sent many of the fans to exits very happy.   Head Coach Mike Babcock said after the game " that we are both now in the 7th game and one game to make it to the Conference Finals against the waiting Vancouver Canucks."    He contiuned by saying "One of our goals was to be one of the final four teams playing this season." 

Detroit now travels to San Jose to face the Sharks on Thursday May 12th at 9:00p.m.   It would have been tough to select 3 stars of the game however the three that come to mind would be Jimmy Howard, Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg.   It promises to be a whale of a game on Thursday night.
