Under perfect conditions the Detroit Lions opened their Training Camp to the public at their Allen Park Training facility.   This was the first practice open to the public for the fans to get excited about the 2012 football season.  Their are high hopes in Detroit and through out Michigan for the Lions this season after making the NFL playoffs in 2011.   A record setting season by quarterback Matt Stafford and wide receiver Calvin Johnson have gotten the interest back at Ford Field.

A capacity crowd turned out to watch the Lions go through their workouts under the watchful eyes of Head Coach Jim Schwartz.  The practice lasted two hours and then the several players signed autographs for about 100 fans after practice.  The players made the point of thanking the fans for coming out and supporting the team.

Having attended several Lions Training Camps over the years from the Ponitac Silverdome days and the five years that the Lions trained at Saginaw Valley State University it is always interesting and fun to watch them go through their workouts.  With over 100 players in uniform they started with their warmups and light running.  Then on the horn they broke into groups with their position coaches to work on different techniques.   After a few different sessions they assembled in the North end zone and then ran some live action 11 on 11.  They ran 7 plays and then put in the second units for another 7 plays.

All in all it was an excellent day for the fans to come out and see the superstars in action on the practice field.  Ndamukong Suh, Matt Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Louis Delmas all were in action working up a sweat in hopes of moving farther in the 2012 NFL playoffs.  It won't be long before another NFL season starts and some excitement down at Ford Field.  Hopes were high around the Lions 2012 Training Camp.
