London, ON:

After a 5-3 victory over the Guelph Storm (37-18-6-4) at the Sleeman Centre in Guelph, ON on Friday night, the Saginaw Spirit (44-15-2-3) made history with a huge weekend sweep, cruising to eight consecutive wins while setting a franchise record for points in a season (93) following a 4-1 victory over the London Knights (45-13-6-1) led by Spirit rookie Cole Perfetti's Texas hat trick in front of 9,036 at Budweiser Gardens in London, ON Saturday night.

Despite the Knights out-shooting Saginaw by a two-to-one margin (48-23) the Spirit managed to stay close behind a great performance from Arizona Coyotes prospect Ivan Prosvetov, who turned away 47 of the 48 shots he saw in net for the Spirit.

Perfetti (32) put the Spirit on the board with his first tally of the night with an assist coming from Owen Tippett for a 1-0 lead at 3:41 of the first period, and after a scoreless second period, Perfetti (33) would make it 2-0 with his second of the night from Tippett again at 5:32 of the third period.

The Knights would cut the Spirit lead to 2-1 later in the third when Cole Tymkin (22) scored his twenty-second of the season at the 14:25 mark.

Perfetti (34) followed with his hat trick, scoring a power play goal from Ryan McLeod and Tippett for a 3-1 lead at 15:15 of the third period, before Perfetti (35) completed the Texas Hat Trick with an empty-net goal for his fourth tally of the night and a 4-1 lead at 17:46 of the third period.

The Spirit, who also tied a franchise record for wins in a season (44) with Saturday's victory, will now look to break that record and avenge its last loss against the Sarnia Sting (the last team to have beaten the Spirit) when Saginaw travels across the blue water bridge to take on the Sting in a 7:05 pm face off at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, ON on Tuesday night.
