Cody Thomas (13) blasted his third home run in the past two games, this one a walk off in the bottom of the eleventh inning to give the Great Lakes Loons (38-33 overall, 2-0 in the second half) a 4-3 win over the South Bend Cubs (Chicago Cubs) at Dow Diamond tonight.

Thomas had hit a solo homer in Thursday night's rain-suspended game that was tied 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning before finishing with a 4-3 win where he hit a 2-run shot prior to tonight's game.

Tonight's walk off homer (his thirteenth of the season, which puts him in second place in the Midwest League home run race) was similar to Thomas' walk off to beat the Dayton Dragons 5-4 back on May, 25 at Dow Diamond.

In both games he had been zero for 4 prior to hitting his walk off to win the game, and A.J. Alexy was the starting pitcher in both games, however, the walk off against Dayton came in the bottom of the tenth inning, while tonight's was in the bottom of the eleventh.

The Loons had jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third after first baseman Erick Meza and third baseman Gersel Pitre led off with back to back doubles followed by a walk to center fielder Saige Jenco to load the bases with nobody out.

Loons second baseman Gavin Lux hit Meza into a force out at home, then advanced to third as Pitre and Jenco scored on a throwing error by South Bend catcher Michael Cruz who overthrew first base trying to double up Lux.

Lux scored on another throwing error, this one by Cubs shortstop Isaac Paredes on a Darien Tubbs' grounder to give the Loons an early 3-0 lead through 3-innings.

The Cubs answered with a run in the top of the fourth after Loons starter A.J. Alexy walked a batter, hit a batter, and walked another batter to load the bases before hitting a second Cubs hitter in four consecutive at-bats (all with 1-out) to get to within 2-runs of the Loons 3-1 midway through the fourth, before forcing a double play to get out of the inning.

The Cubs added another 2-runs when Paredes ripped a 2-RBI double to drive in two runs to tie the game at 3-runs apiece in the top of the fourth inning.

Alexy (2.98 ERA) had another strong outing, giving up just the 3-runs on 2-hits and 4-walks, while striking out 4-batters through 4 2/3 innings.

Loons reliever Sven Schuller (1.60 ERA) replaced Alexy and was lights out, allowing just 2-hits with 1-strikeout through 4 1/3 innings of relief.

Closer Andre Scrubb (2-0, 1.40 ERA) put up zero's across the board for the Loons, adding 4-strikeouts to earn his second win of the season to finish out the final 2-innings.

The Loons will try to remain undefeated in the second half of the MWL season when it takes on South Bend for game-3 of the series tomorrow before wrapping up game-4 on Sunday afternoon at Dow Diamond.
