Central Michigan University defeated WMU on Saturday 3-2 and claimed the series against the Broncos 2 to 1.  This raised the Chippewas record on the season to 30-27 and second place in the Western Division of the Mid American Conference.   It also gave the Chips the #3 seed in the upcoming MAC tournament next week.  They will be facing the Eastern Michigan University.

Senior Jon Weaver pitched a perfect 9th inning to record his 6th save of the season.  In the hotly contested game with the temperature reaching the high 80's saw the game go back and forth with the Chippewas getting the go ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning.   William Arnold knocked in the winning run by grounding into a double play to give them the 3-2 lead.

Central Michigan University had defeated Broncos in a route on Thursday 11-2 and then dropped Friday's contest 5-3.   Head Coach Steve Jaksa said that "The team has worked hard to put themselves to be in contention for the MAC Western Division title and fell a little short."   Now the Chippewas move into the MAC Tournament with their sights on winning the Tournament and drawing an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Nate Theunissen had 2 hits on the day for the Chippewas and starter Dietrich Enns pitched 5 solid innings giving up just 1 earned run.  The Chippewas have been playing good baseball over the 2 1/2 weeks and seem primed to make a long run in the MAC Tournament that starts May 23rd with a 12:30p.m game in Avon, Ohio.   The Chippewas will have to contend with MAC Champion Kent State who is having an outstanding season with a 37-17 record overall and 24-3 in conference play in 2012.   It will take a long run next week for the Chippewas to earn the berth into the NCAA Tournament.  They seem to be set for the best baseball of the season.
