Central Michigan University can add another trophy to it's mantle in claiming the MAC Championship in Womans Basketball.   The woman defeated the Eastern Michigan University Eagles 78-70 on Saturday.   The win gives the Chippewas the West Division title  in the Mid-American Conference for the 2016 season with a 14-4 record.

The Chippewas would trail 40-33 at halftime and see both teams burning the nets with 3 pointers in the 1st quarter.  The Sue Guevara lead Chippewas would finish the regular season with a 20-9 mark for the 5th time in her 9 years at CMU.    Central Michigan would be paced with 5 woman in double figures in the fast paced game in front of 1,604 fans.  Jewel Cotton a red-shirt Junior would lead the way with 20 points.

The real star and bright spot on the Chippewas this season has been the play of Reese's Reyna Frost a 6'0" forward.   She has played big minutes in all 29 games including starting 21 of those games.  The freshman has hauled down 276 rebounds on the season for over 9 1/2 rebounds per game.   Add to that she had contributed 8.8 points per game for the freshman forward.    I don't see how the MAC Coaches cannot place Reyna Frost on the All-MAC Conference teams in only her freshman campaign.

Central Michigan now travels to Cleveland for the Mid-American Conference Basketball tournament.   The Chips open on Wednesday with an opponent to be determined after a first round game.    CMU is the second seed in the tournament and with a Conference Tournament Championship would mean an automatic NCAA Tournament invitation.    They still have an outside chance even with a long run in the MAC Tournament.   All in all it has been a good year in Mount Pleasant for woman basketball.
