The Central Michigan University men's Basketball team won their 3rd straight game on Saturday beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 82-59 in front of 2,491 fans at McGuirk Arena. The defending Mid American Conference Champions are off to a good start in this young season now with a 7-2 record against some good competition to date.
Head Coach Keno Davis is expecting some big things this year from the young Chippewa squad. They return only 3 seniors on the team with one starter in Braylon Rayson. However the season has gone well to date with junior guard Marcus Keene lighting up the boards with a 30 points per game (ppg) average. He didn't disappoint either on Saturday leading all scorers with 31 points.
The Golden Lions played a good game leading most of the 1st half and going into the locker room with a tie 39-39 at half. The Chippewas then threw down the clamps on defense in the second half going on a 11-0 run to start the second half. They never looked back outscoring the Golden Lions 43-20 in the 2nd half for the 82-59 win. Josh Kozinski and Cecil Williams also chipped in 11 points each for CMU.
The Chippewas will only play two more home games now before a MAC Conference game on January 10th against Akron. Big things are being expected from this Chippewa squad in 2017. They have a couple more important non-conference dates before the Conference season starts including a match-up with Illinois. This should be an exciting season at McGwirk Arena in Mount Pleasant.
