Bay City has had a long connection to the sport of Speed Skating.   Brian Chartier from Bay City has been involved with Speed Skating for over 20 years and now has worked his way to almost the top of the officiating level in Speed Skating.

Brian has seen it all over the years from a skater himself, parent of skaters, an officer in the Bay County Speed Skating Club and helping out with bringing to Bay City all of the National Speed Skating events over the last two decades.  Brian by the way is the brother-in-law of Al Izykowski the father of Bronze Medal Olympian Alex Izykowski from Bay City.

Having put his time in over the years with training in clinics to develop skills in the demanding sport of Speed Skating.  Brian then turned his attention to becoming a starter in the sport.   With many years of starting experience and education about being an official Brian has now become one of two Level Five starters in the United States.  He is one of 18 Level Five starters in the World.

Chartier over the past decade has officiated every level of Speed Skating that there is.   From the local meets, State and National Championships meets to the Junior Nationals.   The crowning events are the ones that Brian just recently completed the U.S. Speed Skating Olympic trials in Salt Lake City for the U.S. Olympic team and the ISU 2014 European Short Track Championships.   At this Championship 27 countries used this meet to select members for their own Olympics teams.

All in all one could say that Brian is right on track for his ultimate goal of one day being a starter in the Olympic Games.   This writer having been a sports official for many years would say that Brian Chartier is some day going to be the starter at an Olympic Games.   Good job Brian job well done.
