In the wake of Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s Executive Order issued Monday closing bars, restaurants, theaters and public gatherings larger than 250 people until March 30th, we at The Review are hopeful that as cases begin to subside and the curve of infection flattens and starts to recede, the economic disruption engendered by this crisis will also be mitigated.

Therefore, we are continuing to move forward with the presentation of our  34th Annual REVIEW Music Awards Ceremony & Celebration, which will be happening on Sunday, May 17th at Lumber Barons Brewery in the Genevieve Ballroom from 5 PM to Midnight. Doors will open at 4 PM.

Since our first Awards Celebration in 1987, the Review Music Awards has evolved into a special celebration and one of the premier cultural events in the Great Lakes Bay region and beyond, awarding honors to musicians in over 60 categories of Rock, Country, Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop, Folk and Alternative music.

Indeed, the single purpose of this celebration is to bring greater community, statewide, and national attention to local talent, which we feel has a rich history of being one of the strongest in the state.  More importantly, it gives the general public and fans an opportunity to come together to party and celebrate our region’s collective creative talent. Indeed, the diversity and scope of this annual celebration makes it a unique hybrid of the Grammy and People’s Choice Awards.

This year a total of 1177 musicians were nominated through the months of January & February and a total of 9,459 people voted.  Guest personalities along with  cultural and community leaders will be on hand to present the awards; and a strong list of regional performers and artists will headline this year’s show with live performances and special collaborations.  A dining menu will also be available during the ceremony.

This year’s guest performers will include HedgeRow, Redburn, We, the Infamous, The Todd Michael Band, Amy Petty with special guests, The Blue OG’s with special guests, singer-songwriter Andy Dalton, along with Catfood Sandwich and special guests Rick Gellise and Monique Ella Rose.

Tickets will be $15.00 in advance and $20.00 the day of the show; or you can purchase a table of six tickets for only $70.00.

Invitations to all the nominees will be going out around the second week of April.

Tickets will go on Sale April 2nd and are available at these locations: SAGINAW: Review Magazine, White’s Bar, Records & Tapes Galore, Oppermann’s Cork ‘n Ale, The Listening Room and The Hamilton St. Pub.  BAY CITY: Lumber Barons/The Stables, Electric Kitsch, Herter Music and The Prime Event Center. MIDLAND: Lil’ Bighorn Music, Radio Wasteland and Tim Boychuck’s State Farm Insurance.

Tickets will also be available online through Eventbrite.com.

For more information call Robert Martin at 989-780-4162.

Obviously, given this current state of emergency that is evolving and changing daily, all of this may change if Whitmer’s Executive Order is extended; but as of now and until further notice, please mark this important date of Sunday, May 17th on your calendar.
