A super place to go on a cold November day: 6 days in Midland, Michigan for Ladies Tennis.
I went for the first time this year. Talented physically fit young ladies firing 100 plus MPH services was something to see. The energy & their competitive nature was awesome. Some of these women, have been rated the best in the tennis world.
This Tournament has seen the likes of Anna Kournikova (once Sergei Fedorov’s wife) & Maria Sharapova. My favorite name in the tournament was Francesca Di’Lorenzo. I talked with her. She is 24-years old. She was a Big Ten champion at Ohio State. Her parents were from Salerno Italy. Her dad is a doctor & her mom is a teacher. I was surprised with the screaming going on after a good shot or a poor return. Francesca just missed the semis, losing to Danielle Lao.
In its conclusion, it was Madison Brengle (who once beat Serena Williams) defeating Robin Anderson 6-2 & 6-4 & claiming the $15,000.00 first prize.
It was the second time the 31 year old has won here.
The people in Midland did a great job putting on the event. Sign me up for next year.
