By  the time you read this the final vote will have been cast in our  29th Annual Review Music Awards and it gives me extreme gratification to note that a landmark number of readers, fans, and supporters of our regional music scene took the time to register, vote, and make their own voices heard.  With over 6004 votes cast for all categories & divisions and 948 musicians throughout the region nominated, during the first weekend of the final voting round we had another 1,000 votes cast; so it is safe to say that with our newly instituted tabulation script designed to protect against voter fraud, coupled with the level of registration and interest, this year’s ceremony will be the most accurate and fairest assessment from the voting public that we have yet presented.

As I have said before, the purpose of this ceremony is to celebrate the creativity, drive, and excellence of the musical artisans populating our region; in which case there are no ‘winners, or losers’. And it is with great pleasure that I proudly announce the stellar line-up for our 29th Annual Review Music Awards Ceremony & Celebration, which will be held again this year in the Genevieve Ballroom at Lumber Barons Brewery in Bay City on Sunday, April 12th.

The Review Music Awards is a very special evening whereby the public at large has the opportunity to honor, converse with, and soak up the special musical talents of top musicians in the genres of Rock, Blues, Country , Hip Hop & Jazz, along with many miscellaneous categories for which we honor top artists in over 60 different categories and divisions.

Guest presenters and local personalities will be on hand to present the Awards to the esteemed recipients; and this year we will present incredible musical performances by the following line-up of artists:

  • Donny Brown & the Van-Dell Tones:  Saginaw native Donny Brown, formerly drummer, vocalist & co-founder of the seminal Alt-Rock band The Verve Pipe will showcase new original material from his debut EP Hess Street along with fresh translations on many Verve Pipe classics.
  • Redburn: With his mixture and hybrid of hard rock & Hip-Hop, Chris Redburn and company are packing in the clubs and scoring big with their newly released CD, Rock Hop.
  • Brody & the Busch Rd. Trio: One of the most original and committed rock outfits on the scene, musically this group frames songwriter/vocalist Eric ‘Brody’ Braeutigam’s original songs with sounds drawn from both Classic Rock and America’s rich musical legacy of the Blues and Folk. Each song is an amalgamation of influences that results in something fresh and unique, possessing a divergent range of expression.
  • The Distorted Waltz.  This highly energized and creative rock quartet are musical anarchists hanging their instincts for coloration on catchy hooks and driven emotion. Their music is diverse yet familiar, exploring a kaleidoscope of sound that colors sepia toned excursions into the past and day-glow forays into the future.
  • Avenue 5: This incredible line-up of musical talent possesses both strong musicianship and vocal harmonization guaranteed to pull audiences out of their seats. With musical sensibilities deeply seated in Motown, Rhythm & Blues, and popular dance music, it is impossible not to be drawn into the light emanating from the soulful and shimmering sounds they create.
  • The Blues Sage Ramblers: This newly formed amalgamation consisting of veteran musicians Tom Dolson, Bob Hausler, James Nelson and Jim Spaulding create a cosmic hybrid of Americana, Outlaw Country, Blues, Rock & Soul.
  • The Robertson Brothers Band: This newly formed group consists of brothers Mike & Scott Robertson and Rosco Selley from the esteemed group Maybe August, legendary Saginaw keyboardist Mike Thomas, and Micke McHenry on percussion. Leaning towards Americana they are also heavy on vocal harmonization and mix acoustic and electric presentations.
  • The Hipakritz: A long time staple on the Rock ‘n Roll Scene, this ever-popular party band is guaranteed to shake down the house as they host our ‘Awards After Party’ that will close out the evening with a bang and a reminder about all that is great in this region.

Doors for the 29th annual RMA’s will open at 4:00 PM and the show will run from 5:00-11:00 PM, followed by the After Party.
