The Detroit Tigers continued the American League Divisional Series at Comerica Park on Monday by dropping the contest to the Oakland Athletics 6-3.   The Tigers now will have to win the next two games of the best of five series to keep playing for the right to play in the 2013 World Series.   In front of a sellout crowd of 43,979 fans under cool conditions the Tigers could not mount any threat except for 3 runs in the fourth inning.

Anibal Sanchez the starting pitcher had one of his poorer starts of the 2013 season giving up 3 home runs in going just 5 innings.  The Tigers potent offense has gone silent in the Divisional Series against the Oakland Athletics.  They split the first two games in Oakland scoring just 3 runs.  Now the Tigers have only scored runs in two innings of the first three games.

Prince Fielder led the Tigers with two hits but failed to get a key hit with runners in position.  Johnny Peralta had the big hit in the 4th innings driving in 2 runs to tie the score at 3-3.  But the Athletics came right back and scored 3 runs in the 5th innings to end the scoring for the day.  Jarrod Parker pitched a strong game for 5 innings for the A's and then it was turned over to the bullpen.

The buzz around the ballpark was the play of Miguel Cabrera who still appears to be playing less than 100% during the playoffs.  In fact Cabrera's production has fallen off the charts since the beginning of September.  Cabrera won his 3rd straight batting title this year but had to hang on to win that.

Several Tigers will be in contention for Post Season Awards from MLB in 2013.  However all of the success hasn't helped them in the playoffs.  The Tigers have gotten strong pitching efforts from Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander.  The big bats of the line-up have gone silent.

There was a little excitement late in the game when Victor Martinez took exception to something reliever Grant Balfour said to him in the 9th inning.  Victor started towards the mound and was stopped by the umpires.  Both benched cleared and a few pitches later the game was over.  The Tigers now play Tuesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. and need to win in order to go back to Oakland for a deciding game 5.
