On a beautiful evening in downtown Lansing the West Michigan Whitecaps (Detroit Tigers affiliate) and Lansing Lugnuts (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) hooked up in a low scoring pitcher's duel.   The 1st place Whitecaps would defeat the Lugnuts 3-2 after scoring 3 runs early and then hanging on for the victory.

The Whitecaps have already clinched a spot in the Midwest League playoffs by their play from the 1st half of the season.  Lansing is struggling this season with a 53-63 record and came into the contest having lost 8 of the past 11 games.   The Whitecaps would score single runs in the first, third and fifth innings to build their lead.

7,185 fans would watch the game and then stay for the fireworks after the game which the Lugnuts have after every Saturday home game.   The game featured strong pitching from both starting pitchers Kevin Ziomek (Whitecaps) and Brad Allen (Lugnuts).  Javier Betancourt would lead the Whitecaps with 2 hits and 2 rbi's on the night.   Matt Dean paced the Lugnuts with 2 hits who bats were fairly silent by only gathering 5 hits.

The quickly played game that lasted only 2:21 minutes and would see fans from all over Michigan attending the game.   Cooley Law Stadium will see some major developments happening after the season is finished.    A 22 million dollar project will take over the left field corner of the ballpark.   This will house private residents, retail and office space taking up the entire area now where their is lawn seating and a kids play area.   Good things are going to happen again in downtown Lansing.
