SBSO: Symphonie Fantastique

Posted in: Concerts

The Saginaw Bay Symphony Orchestra presents American composer Ruth Crawford Seeger’s haunting Andante for strings from 1931 opens the program and is followed by the brilliant Khachaturian violin concerto with the SBSO’s own concertmaster, Eliot Heaton, as soloist. The evening is completed by a performance of Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique. This Romantic work was radical for its time. It tells the story of the dreams and hallucinations of a musician who obsesses about his beloved for whom he feels both longing and jealousy. He glimpses her at a ball, in the countryside, as he is marched to his execution. Finally, he sees her transformed into a witch as she joins in the witches' whirlwind sabbath celebrations. *If social distancing seating restrictions still apply, the concert will be modified and performed virtually. Temple Theatre, 201 N. Washington Ave., Saginaw. 8 to 9:30 PM. $13.00 general admission; $40 Seating A and B. Phone 989-755-6491.
