The Detroit Tigers with open a weekend series vs. the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park with a three game winning streak in tack.  The Tigers were rained out on Wednesday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays.   This should be a real good test to see how the Tigers are going to fair in the 2011 season.   After hovering around the .500 mark for most of the season they now need to step it up against a contender.   The Red Sox come into Comerica after thrashing the Cleveland Indians this afternoon.

Sunday's match-up will be a classic pitching duel between Detroit's Justin Verlander and Boston's Josh Beckett.   Miguel Cabrera is now hitting his stride and really pounding the ball for the Tigers.   With some recent call-ups from Toledo to shore up a couple of injuries things will be very interesting this weekend against the hated Red Sox.

The Central Michigan Chippewas fresh off winning their second straight Western Division of the Mid-American Conference  Baseball title.    They head into the Mid-American Conference Tournament this week with an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament on the line.  Former Saginaw Nouvel H.S. Baseball head coach Steve Jaksa has been the Head Coach at CMU for the past eight seasons and has  the Chippewas back into the winning tradition.

The Loons are facing off against the Dayton Dragons this week who are managed by former Major Leaguer Delino DeSheilds who played for several teams during his career.    The Loons continue to receive strong pitching performances from Ryan Christiansen who pitched 6.1 innings without giving up a run on Tuesday night.    The Loons continue to hold a slim lead over in state rivals the Lansing Lugnuts.
