The Tall Ships have arrived in Bay City again for a 4 day celebration of the majestic old sailing ships from centuries past. The eleven ships will be anchored in downtown Bay City on the Saginaw River between the Liberty and Veterans Memorial Bridge. Entrance to the Tall Ships Celebration can be made on either side of the river.
The event will attract over 100,000 visitors to Bay City over the weekend. This is a big boost in the arm for the economy in the downtown area. The entire downtown was all spruced up for this event with things being well planned for. The hotels are booked full and the parking lots also to capacity with many out of town and out of state visitors making the trip here. This will be the only appearance in the State of Michigan in 2013.
One of the families that I ran into was the Ron and Kathy Morse family from Essexville, Michigan with their 3 children in tow. They were excited about touring the Tall Ships today. Kathy Morse stated "We have been down to see the Tall Ships in the past, but have never done the ship tours until today." They were not looking forward to the long lines that already building up by noon on the first day. They did bring cameras with them to take some pictures up close.
With perfect weather for the entire weekend things will be jumping in downtown Bay City with many related activities planned on both sides of the Saginaw River. Bay City likes to throw big parties and has done very well with the "Tall Ship Celebration" over the years. This one looks to be just as good.
