State of Dis-Union Address • A Brief Summary

Election integrity issues and the growth of what noted Harvard historian Arthur Schlesinger once labeled ‘the Imperial Presidency’ notwithstanding, similar to the decline of the Roman Empire, last night’s State of the Union address by President Joe Biden clearly demonstrated how badly political hubris coupled with the unchecked expansionism of the Military Industrial Complex over the past 50-years has clogged the arteries of our constitutional republic.

At the age of 80, Biden is the oldest president to give a State of the Union address…and frankly, it showed.  While discussing law enforcement and the death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, Biden referred to him as "Tyler." Biden also called Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer the Senate "minority" leader.

Other incongruous highlights included the following:

• In a somewhat stunning statement, President Biden claimed he’s succeeded in driving illegal migration “down”.  In fact, the president’s statement follows a record surge in illegal immigration in fiscal year 2022, when U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recorded more than 2.3 million migrant encounters and in December, when the agency recorded more than 250,000 migrant encounters, marking the highest month on record.

• Inflation & Unprecedented Budget Deficits.

Despite the fact that according to the Congressional Budget Office, growing deficits are projected to drive federal debt held by the public to unprecedented levels over the next 30 years - by 2051 debt is projected to reach more than 200% of gross domestic product. - amazingly, Biden’s overall theme at his State of the Union address last night can be summed up in one sentence: ‘Let’s spend more money.’

This can best be outlined in a simplified agenda:

Bad things: Billionaires (tax them, shouldn't exist), Buybacks (tax them, too),  Big-Oil (making too much money), Big-Tech (slam them unless they censor information contrary to our agenda, in which case we’ll pay them to help us),  Guns (kill people), Police (kill people), and Putin (well, give the Ukraine a blank check and let’s push things to the brink because he's Hitler).

Other highlights of the evening:

• President Biden slammed SCOTUS for overturning Roe vs Wade (as the Justices responsible for the decision sat un-partisanly in front of him).

On the issue of fentanyl, Republicans once erupted, shouting "Your fault!" before standing in ovation to applaud Biden's calls to "launch a major surge" to stop production, sale and trafficking of the drug.

• Biden also took a moment to make an aside about the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol breach near the beginning of the speech, calling it “the greatest threat [to democracy] since the Civil War.

Republican National Committee (RNC) Chair Ronna McDaniel issued a statement Tuesday, ahead of President Biden's address.

“The state of the union is weaker and American families are suffering because of Joe Biden. There is a reason Republicans took back the House, and that’s because of speeches like tonight where Biden will ignore and deflect blame for inflation, rising crime, and a border crisis he created. Americans deserve solutions, but all they’ll hear from Biden are excuses.”
