The Saginaw Spirit (1-1-1-0) exploded for four second period goals en route to a 9-3 road victory over the Sarnia Sting at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, ON Friday night. 
 
Saginaw had jumped out to an early lead when D.J. Busdeker (2) and Blade Jenkins (2) each scored, giving the Spirit a 2-1 first period lead. 
 
Spirit captain Damien Giroux (2) scored twice in the second period, while Cole Coskey (3) and defenseman Ilya Solovyov (1) each added a goal in the second frame. 
 
Nicholas Porco (1), Saginaw native Mitchell Smith (1), and Mason Millman (1) would round out the Spirit scoring in the third period. 
 
Solovyov added 4-assists to lead Saginaw offensively with a 5-point night, while goal tender Tristan Lennox turned away 20 of the 23 shots he faced in net for the Spirit.
 
The Spirit return home for a 7:05 pm western conference matchup against division rivals the Soo Greyhounds at the Dow Event Center tonight.
