The Saginaw Spirit jumped out to an early 3-0 lead against the OHL's top team in the eastern conference, but a second period breakdown led to a 5-3 Kingston Frontenac victory in front of 3,977 faithful Spirit fans at the Dow Event Center tonight.

Kris Bennett and Tye Felhaber scored 40 seconds apart early on to give the Spirit a 2-0 lead with just over three minutes played in the first period.

Bennett continues his hot scoring streak (in the second half of the season) with goal number 24 at 2:46 of the opening period.  Just 40 seconds later Tye Felhaber scored his fifteenth at the 3:26 mark.

Halfway through the first period Artem Artemov (18) scored to give Saginaw a comfortable 3-0 lead at 9:41 of the first period.

Kingston cut the Spirit lead to 3-1 with just over one minute remaining in the first period when Lawson Crouse -a first round pick of the Florida Panthers (11 overall) in the 2015 NHL entry draft- scored at the 18:47 mark.

The Frontenacs would prove why they are the number one team in the OHL's eastern conference with a dominant second period, out-shooting the Spirit 22-5 and scoring twice to tie the game at 3 goals apiece.

Crouse would score the eventual game winner at 12:47 of the third period for his second goal of the night. Jared Steege added an empty-netter for the Frontenacs to round out the scoring.

The Spirit are off until Thursday when they will host the Soo Greyhounds at the Dow Event Center.
