Poindexter has been making beats for himself and other Local MC's since the late 90's. From the early days of the PlayStation Beat Generator to flipping some of the rarest samples known to man, Dex has not lost a step. You can hear his production on recent projects and singles from Bub Bizzle, OJ The King, and Alphabetics. I sat down with Dex and asked him to give me his three favorite productions and how they influenced his style.

1. Ghostface Killah - Beat The Clock prod. by Minnesota
This beat is a great example of what my style became about 5 years ago. I fell in love with the disco style strings and incorporated them into plenty of beats. I think the drum pattern is also very similar to what I currently do. Nice bouncy tempo, but still sounds street.

2. Jay-Z - Hola Hovito prod. by Timbaland
Every time I hear this, it gets me ready for the night. It doesn't get much better than Timbo. The thing I like about Timbaland is his ability to layer many different elements, but make them all fit and improve the beat. He has an all around clean sound that I emulate. This beat is a good example of what I'd like to become as a producer.

3. Snoop Dogg - Vato prod. by The Neptunes
I love The Neptunes sound. They developed a style that nobody has come close to duplicating. Vato is the perfect example of what I would want produced for me as a rapper. I love a raw, west-coast sound. Something you can drink and party to, but also go hard over as a lyricist.

I'd like to also mention:
Jay-Z - Lucifer prod. by Kanye West
Dr. Dre - Still D.R.E. prod. by Scott Storch
J-Dilla - Everything he has done (He's gotta be mentioned)

Dex currently has beats for sale and they are available for an affordable rate. Email him at adam_roar@yahoo.com and give your project some of that "vanilla funk".
