The Northwood University Timberwolves opened the 2013 campaign at Hantz Stadium against Slippery Rock.   Slippery Rock is the football team that the University of Michigan announces their score at the home football games each week.  Under cloudy warm skies in Midland the Timberwolves fell behind on the first play from scrimmage on a 73 yard touchdown pass.  The game was knotted after the first quarter at 14-14.  Slippery Rock would take a 30-17 lead into the locker room.

Red shirt freshman quarterback Mitch Robinson would end up with a career day passing with 362 yards and 3 touchdowns passes.  However the Northwood defense would have a tough time stopping the potent Slippery Rock offense who would score at will against the Timberwolves.  The 2013 GLIAC media poll has the Timberwolves picked for last in the North Division.  Northwood is looking to improve on its 5-6 record from last year.  The Timberwolves started off fast last season with a 4-0 record and then finished 1-6 in the next 7 games.

Northwood will now be on the road for the next two weeks before they return home to face the Tiffin University football team.  The Timberwolves will face traditional rival Saginaw Valley State University on October 12 at Harvey R. Wickes Stadium.  Then they will face Michigan Tech and Grand Valley State University back to back at Hantz Stadium.   It looks to be a long season for the Timberwolves.  All Northwood games can be heard on 1490 AM radio WMPX this season.
